Chengcing Lake
I. Chengcing Lake – A Sightseeing Area that Supplies Water:
In 1960, the Government opened Chengcing Lake as a sightseeing area, which later became one of
the “Eight Views of Taiwan”. As a part of the seventh branch of Taiwan Water Corporation,
Chengcing Lake has two operational functions:
  1. Water Supply:In October 2003, an advanced water purification station was put into formal operation to provide households in Kaohsiung Metropolitan Area with a supply of quality water. With an estimated daily processing volume of 450,000 metric tons, the water purification station boasts the best nano-technological water purification system in Taiwan.

  2. Sightseeing:Of the 12 branches of Taiwan Water Corporation, the 7th branch is the only one that has established a Sightseeing Section, which is responsible for operating and managing the entire sightseeing area. Chengcing Lake is widely known for its natural, modest, and serene beauty and is called the “Backyard of the Kaohsiung Metropolitan Area”. In addition to the eight scenic spots, the Guesthouses of Chiang Kai-shek are also a tourist attraction that sits along Chengcing Lake. In 1993, the “Former Strategic Underground Quarters Commanded by the Late President Chiang Kai-shek” was outsourced to a private corporation to preserve its original landscapes, and its secret tunnel was reconstructed into the “Exotic Marine Life Museum” to exhibit rare sea creatures. In 2002, Dear Moon Tower was also outsourced to a private corporation to put into formal operation a coffee shop and art exhibition center put, thus giving tourists even more recreational areas.

II. Domestic Pioneering Nano-grade Water Purification Facility:
Research and investigations outsourced by the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) and Taiwan Water Corporation (TWC) have revealed that the factors that affect water texture in the Kaohsiung Metropolitan Area can be separated into odor intensity and water hardness, with odor intensity being a determining factor in situations where water is not thoroughly boiled.
In order to improve the drinkability of tap water (such as texture, flavor, and hardness), water purification facilities with a daily processing capacity of 740,000 metric-tons each have been added to the water purification stations in Chengcing Lake, Kaotan, and Weng-Gongyuan.
These three domestic pioneering water purification facilities are the most well-established systems in the world. By referring to experiences from different countries, the traditional water
purification facility has been combined with advanced process technologies, such as pre-ozonation, post-ozonation, crystallization, softening, bio-activated carbon, nano-sized bubble flotation, and nano-filtration, to create a better system.

III. Newly Established Seawater Desalination Plant at Penghu District
Due to the rainless climate of Penghu District, the island is severely deprived of water resources. With its sightseeing industries emerging in recent years, water shortages have become a common problem throughout the island.
In order to resolve those water shortages, a seawater desalination plant has been established to increase water supply. Currently, the average water supply in Penghu District is 31,000 metric tons / day. Together, five seawater desalination plants and five well water desalination plants jointly produce a total of 17,450 metric tons water per day, accounting for 1/2 of the water demand each day. By providing Penghu District with a sufficient and stable water supply, the plants not only improve local living standards but also promote the island’s sightseeing industries.

IV. Submarine Water Pipe of Liuqiu Township
In 1981, the first submarine water pipeline with a full length of 1,400 meters was established between Linbian Township and Liuqiu Township, Pingtung County. It became the sole water supply facility for all of Liuqiu Township.
So that pipeline fractures would not cause water outages in Liuqiu Township, a second submarine water pipeline was established and buried parallel to the first one in 2004. Established by a Japanese manufacturer, the second submarine water pipeline (with a diameter of 250 mm and a full length of 1,400 meter) was integrally designed without any joints.
Along with the first submarine pipeline, it provides Liuqiu’s residents and its sightseeing industries with a sufficient and stable water supply, which in turn promotes local prosperity and growth.

V. A Domestic Industrial Center with Great Industrial Water Use
Of all the customers we supply water to, industrial water users account for a large proportion. In addition to Linyuan Industrial Park and Dashe Industrial Park, we also supply water to Nanzhi Export Processing Zone and Kaohsiung Export Processing Zone, with China Steel Corporation being our biggest client (300,000 to 400,000 metric tons of water every day).
Currently, the average water supply to Kaohsiung Metropolitan Area is approximately 1.6 million metric tons / day, with 350,000 metric tons of industrial water supply (provided by Fongshan Water Reservoir) accounting for 22% of the total water supply.

VI. Unlimited Potential of Maritime Capital
As a metropolitan center for Southern Taiwan, Kaohsiung is the second largest city on the island. Home to Kaohsiung International Airport and the Port of Kaohsiung (which ranks among the top 10 of the world), Kaohsiung City boasts a transportation system that encompasses high speed rail, rapid transit, railways, and highways, which has become a comprehensive network that covers land, sea, and air transportation. The formation of such a convenient transportation network has also brought prosperity and growth to Kaohsiung City.
Surrounded by maritime resources such as mountains, seas, rivers, and ports, Kaohsiung is Taiwan's true maritime capital. Kaohsiung’s great water demand not only increases our revenue and profits, but also improves our international image due to the opportunity to present our most advanced water purification station and nano-grade tap water.
